The Challenge

When Middle Park European Bistro opened its doors in June 2025, the team behind the venue brought with them decades of hospitality experience and a vision of creating a refined Eurocentric dining experience in the heart of Melbourne’s bayside suburb. With curated wines, an elegant interior and a menu designed for long, convivial evenings, everything seemed set for success. But almost immediately after opening, customer reviews told a different story. While the food and service were praised, the atmosphere was overshadowed by one recurring complaint: the noise levels. Hard surfaces, high ceilings and a lively crowd meant reverberation times were uncomfortably long. Diners reported having to raise their voices to be heard, conversations became strained, and overall enjoyment of the space was impacted.

One guest summed it up in their review: “Place was fullish & you could barely hear yourself let your partner. Should have done better in the design!”  For a restaurant where atmosphere is as important as the menu, this was not sustainable. The owners knew they needed a professional acoustic solution—fast.

The Solution

The owners initially considered quick fixes, such as foam tiles and retail-style acoustic products, but they quickly realised these wouldn’t be effective for a professional dining space. What they needed was a tailored solution that would:

Based on data modelling, we designed a plan using engineered ceiling acoustic panels with high absorption performance. By treating only the key reflection points (about 40–50% ceiling coverage per section), we ensured diners would experience a dramatic improvement in clarity and comfort without losing the energy of a bustling dining room.

The Installation

The SoundFix team coordinated closely with the owners to ensure installation caused minimal disruption to the restaurant’s service.
